North East Neighbourhood House Network supports the Voice to Parliament

The Uluru Statement from the Heart invites all people in Australia to walk with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people on a journey for a better future.

We acknowledge that Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander tribes were the first sovereign nations of the Australian continent and its adjacent islands.  They have shaped, nurtured and nourished it for thousands of years. With this enduring connection comes knowledge and wisdom.

Social justice is at the heart of what Neighbourhood Houses do.  Neighbourhood Houses have always believed that everyone has a right to be heard and that people flourish when they have control over their destiny and the resources and autonomy to reach their full potential

Therefore, we support enshrining a First Nations Voice to Parliament in the constitution.  This is a crucial step towards self determination for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. We encourage all Neighbourhood Houses to walk with Indigenous communities on the journey to Treaty and Truth.

In this way healing can continue for everyone and we can all move forward together.
